This 3-year intensive conservatory program is a part of New York University. The first year focuses on Alexander technique and freeing the actor’s instrument while scene study and performance-oriented training increases during the next 2 years.
Classes include voice and speech, singing, movement, clown, text and scene study, stage combat, dialects and more.
Performance opportunities: First-year students perform in a Shakespeare play. The second and third year focus heavily on productions with 4 productions each year (students get to work with professional directors).
Career preparation: Students appear in a showcase production in front of casting directors, agents and producers before graduating and have an opportunity to work with future filmmakers in the NYU Graduate Film Department. Third-year acting students take classes in auditioning and acting as a business.
Degree: MFA in acting.
Financial Aid: Full scholarships, grants, loans and work-study programs are available upon acceptance into the program and additional grants are awarded during the course of studies.
What you’ll need to apply: Transcripts and audition. International students are welcomed but need to audition in person.
Acceptance rate: 18-20 actors are selected every year out of approximately 500 applicants.
