QUESTION:
If someone has no background is theater, and they want to pursue film, do you think casting directors will look down on it?
ANSWER:
A lot of casting directors in Los Angeles like to see theater credits on actors’ resumes, but that doesn’t mean they don’t look at actors who only do film. As long as you have strong credits in either film or theater, a casting director will consider you a professional they can cast.
Either way, they don’t “look down” on actors. Many casting directors are former actors so they understand where you’re coming from. Some just feel that theater actors are better trained, but what really matters is that you nail the audition and act professionally when you get a callback and book an acting job.
Whether you have a lot of acting credits or not, many Los Angeles casting directors like to pre-read actors they don’t know.
