The Drama Division at Julliard is one of the most prestigious undergraduate drama programs among New York Acting Schools. Theater students benefit from a New York acting training centered around rehearsals and performances.
By working on specific plays students learn concentration, how to free their instrument, improvisation, analyze scripts, how to approach a role and more.
Classes include movement, voice and speech, Alexander technique, stage combat, mask, comedy technique, dance, singing, make-up and auditioning technique for the stage and the camera.
Performance opportunities: Students work as an ensemble of actors with guest directors and playwrights-in-residence. During the final year, graduating students perform in seven plays.
Career preparation: Acting students attend master classes taught by returning alumni. Graduating students present a showcase of scenes in New York and Los Angeles to more than 400 industry professionals.
Degree: Students who take an additional 24 credits from Juilliard’s Interdivisional Liberal Arts curriculum obtain a Bachelor of Fine Arts, others obtain a Diploma.
Financial Aid: Federal and state financial aid is available, as well as Juilliard scholarships, loans and work-study programs.
What you’ll need to apply: Transcripts, a letter of recommendation from a teacher, an interview and an audition (those selected for auditions and callbacks must audition in person at the acting college in New-York, in Chicago or in San Francisco). Applicants for whom English is not a native language must submit TOEFL scores. You cannot apply more than 3 times.
Acceptance rate: 18 students are selected of more than 1,000 applicants.
