This is one of the acting schools in Philadelphia that offers a masters program. The conservatory training in voice, speech, and movement is completed by classes in stage combat, dramatic literature, script analysis, Stanislavski, improvisation, make-up, singing, and acting for film & television.

Actors can also learn through assistant teaching in the undergraduate acting program and can take various elective classes. Grad students have the option of completing their studies in 2 or 3 years.

Performance opportunities: Actors participate in 2 mainstage productions each year.

Career preparation: Internships are available. Actors take a class on the business of acting and attend professional seminars and workshops. They can also get certified in a particular craft like stage combat. As part of their thesis, graduating students appear in an industry showcase in Philadelphia, New York and Los Angeles.

Degree: MFA in Theatre/Acting.

Financial Aid: Beyond federal loans and work-study programs, graduate students can apply for teaching assistanships and academic internships.

What you’ll need to apply: Only professional actors with national credits should apply (applicants must submit a portfolio with reviews, press releases, etc.) You will also need to submit transcripts (applicants must have a BA), 3 letters of recommendation, a headshot and resume, and a mission statement. Every 3 years, there is the opportunity to audition in New York City, Chicago and San Francisco (the next round of auditions and interviews is in 2009).

Audition policy: Graduate students may be able to continue to work professionally with an authorization from the faculty.
