This Christian Florida acting school offers an undergraduate program in Acting for the Stage and Screen with a specialization in either film or stage acting.
Beyond general education courses, actors study theater and screen acting, improvisation, movement, dance, stage combat, speech, dialects, auditioning technique, script analysis and characterization, while taking classes in filmmaking, audio and video production, communications and mass media.
Actors who choose to focus on stage acting also take classes in Meisner, technical theater, scene study and theater history, and gain experience working backstage. Screen acting students take classes in screenwriting, film and TV theory, Christian storytelling and production.
The school also has a musical theater program with group and private singing classes, musical theater classes, music theory, sight-singing and dance.
Performance opportunities: The school produces 4-5 shows each year at various facilities around town. Stage acting students are required to participate in at least 3 productions during the course of their studies. Musical theater students perform in a musical revue. Students can also audition for the school’s improvisation troupe.
Career preparation: The school has its own private cable TV and film production arm, Sailfish TV and Sailfish Pictures. Students who major in Acting for the Stage and Screen are required to play a role in a Sailfish production. In addition, screen acting students get to create their own short films.
Degree: BA in Acting for the Stage and Screen, BA in Musical Theatre.
Financial Aid: Federal, state and institutional grants, awards and scholarships are available, as well as student loans and work-study programs. Actors can also audition for a theater scholarship.
