This is the place to find NYC acting classes focused on film acting. This acting school in New York City offers a one-year intensive acting program and a 2-year conservatory program.
Classes include Introduction to Acting, Improvisation, Movement, Voice, Acting for Film, Acting for Television, Scene Study, Meisner Technique, Monologues and Shakespeare, as well as filmmaking and editing classes (students who take the 2-year program are also introduced to more acting techniques and approaches, as well as stunt acting, voice-over acting and producing).
Performance opportunities: First-year student actors present scenes in front of an invited audience at the end of the first semester. Second-year students appear in one-act plays and other presentations.
Career preparation: Since the school also has a program in filmmaking, screenwriting, and producing, acting students have an opportunity to build relationships for the future. It also allows actors to work on a set and start their career with a reel in hand (all students work on at least one short film). Students appear in an industry showcase at the end of the second semester and take an Audition Technique class (plus a Business of Acting class for second year students).
Degree: Students in the one-year program earn 28 college credits. Students in the 2-year conservatory program earn 56 credits and can earn a bachelor’s degree through an affiliated acting college.
Financial Aid: There is no direct financial aid available but the school has a financial aid department that helps in the process of securing grants, loans and scholarships.
What you’ll need to apply: You don’t need to audition to get into a NYC acting class at the NYFA. This is one of the acting schools in New York City that has an open policy admission. Classes are open to foreign students.
