QUESTION:
How do you do it? How do you get on shows and movies without paying for school?
ANSWER:
It’s true. Not everyone goes to acting school. Some kids just learn by doing. They go to a go-see or an audition one day, book the job, and learn the rest as they go. Most people who stay in acting train at some point, either with an acting coach or by taking acting classes, but if you don’t have the money to put your child in an acting class right now, you can still do a few things to help them follow their dreams:
1) Get some good pictures of your child that look like them and the type of roles you think they could be cast in.
2) Find a directory of acting and modeling agencies in your area and make a list of agents that represent children in your city.
3) Mail your best pictures to the agents on your list, along with a cover letter and a resume if you can.
4) Sign up for legitimate casting websites like ActorsAccess or CastingNetworks where you can submit your child directly for acting jobs. Legitimate is the key word here to protect your child’s safety. Make sure your child’s information is private and review each casting notice carefully before submitting.
