This is one of the acting schools in Tampa where you can study either straight acting or musical theater. Classes for actors include acting, voice, diction, oral interpretation, movement, play analysis, dance and Shakespeare, as well as dramatic lit, stage management, design and directing. Musical theater students study acting, voice, dance (ballet, jazz, tap, dance partnering), music theory, musicianship, play analysis, musical theater and technical theater.

Performance opportunities: This acting school in Tampa produces 2 mainstage plays and musicals each year at a 1,000-seat theater, plus 2 cabarets productions at another venue. Students are required to audition as early as their freshman year.

Career preparation: Students take workshops with artists-in-residence and can intern at a theater company, among other places. They also take a seminar on auditioning and the business of acting. Seniors appear in a showcase production.

Degree: BA in Theater, BA in Performing Arts (Musical Theater).

Tuition Fee: $10,345 per semester (room and board is available for about $4,000 per semester).

Financial Aid: Musical theater students can audition for a $14,000 departmental scholarship. Otherwise, there are several merit-based scholarships and need-based grants one can apply for, as well as loans and work-study programs.
